Introduced through a mutual friend, Ambit Co-Founders Jere Thompson, Jr. and Chris Chambless met for the first time at a sandwich shop in Addison, TX. They hit it off and discussed ideas for a new energy company that would create opportunities in a deregulated market. Both men had an entrepreneurial mindset, and they agreed one of their chief goals was to create a company that would help other business-minded people take advantage of the changing energy market. They immediately recognized that a relationship-based sales model meant others could start with low overhead, no inventory, and no staff.
Once they had their business model, Chris and Jere brainstormed names for the new company. After cycling through several ideas, they settled on “Ambit,” which means “one’s circle or scope of influence.”
From the start, Ambit has been based on a simple idea: The best way to maintain loyal, consistent Customers is to operate using Independent Consultants to build strong relationships and drive new business.

The new company moved into a spacious, renovated warehouse in downtown Dallas' West End district.
To foster an environment of open communication and accountability, the office space is cleared of dividing walls and barriers. Ambit started small, but it was already thinking big.
To best accommodate the unique challenges of the energy industry and the company's rapid growth, Ambit's IT team created a custom, trademarked Customer Care and billing platform from the ground up. From the start, our proprietary technology has provided a qualitative and competitive edge that has helped Ambit build a reputation for excellence.
Early August 2006—the first four New Consultant Kits were shipped to the "Founding Four" Consultants and Ambit started enrolling Customers.
To ensure the company had a solid foundation for growth, employees and Consultants adopted the motto: "Never sacrifice integrity for growth."

Ambit’s success and continued growth grabbed the attention of another visionary company with a tradition of excellence, Vistra Energy. The name is a combination of vision and tradition.
